Introduction: A Project of Excellence Between Innovation and Sustainability
As part of the renovation of the Italian headquarters of one of the most important multinational cosmetics companies, the client paid particular attention to the selection of materials and construction solutions capable of meeting the highest standards of safety, durability, and eco-sustainability. The main objective of the project was to ensure durable, safe flooring that complied with environmental regulations, without compromising on refined and functional aesthetics.
For this reason, the project management decided to rely on Winkler technology, a leading reference in the field of waterproofing and protective solutions for construction. A highly qualified intervention that respected the established timelines and achieved the highest level of client satisfaction.
Key Points of the Project:
✅ Eco-compatible materials meeting LEED and BREEAM criteria
✅ High-performance solutions for staircases, thermal rooms, and pedestrian areas
✅ Protection and durability with non-slip and waterproof finishes
✅ Fast and secure interventions with constant technical support from Winkler
✅ Cutting-edge technologies to ensure durability and quality certifications
The intervention was carried out in full compliance with certifications:
LEED: Recognized internationally, it evaluates the environmental impact and energy efficiency of buildings.
BREEAM: Provides a detailed analysis of the environmental impact of a building throughout its entire life cycle, from design to demolition.
Areas of Intervention and Project Objectives
The project covered several areas of the building, each with specific requirements in terms of resistance, safety, and maintenance:
- Fire escape stairs: Required highly resistant, non-slip surfaces compliant with safety regulations.
- Internal office staircases: In addition to safety, attention was given to comfort and aesthetics.
- Lift landings: Solutions with high mechanical resistance for heavy load transit.
- Thermal rooms: Protection against humidity and temperature variations.
For each area, the Winkler technical team studied the most suitable solution, ensuring high performance without compromising sustainability.
Project Phases and Products Used
Substrate Preparation
The first phase of the intervention involved preparing the substrates, a crucial step to ensure optimal adhesion of subsequent treatment layers. After heavy sanding, carried out by the company ResinEurope, a consolidating and waterproofing primer was applied to stabilize the surface and reduce the absorption of the finishing material.
🔹 Product Used: UNIBAR FORMULA
- Two-component multifunctional waterproofing resin, solvent-free.
- Consolidating capability for incoherent or crumbling load distribution layers.
- Waterproofing function, ideal for substrates without vapor barriers.
- Easy application thanks to the ready-to-use formulation.
The application of UNIBAR FORMULA was carried out at 0.200 g/m² across all areas, ensuring a solid and durable base.
Screeding and Waterproofing
To improve the surface resistance and promote adhesion of the finishing layer, the subsequent screeding was performed with UNIBAR FORMULA mixed with quartz and excess sprinkling, creating a structured and slip-resistant base.
This solution allowed to:
✅ Increase the friction coefficient for enhanced safety.
✅ Ensure greater durability, even in high-traffic areas.
✅ Promote better adhesion of the protective finish.
Application of Finishes Specific to Each Area
Depending on the functional needs of each environment, specific products were selected for the protection and finishing of the treated surfaces.
🔹 Internal Staircases: UNIBAR G
- Protective non-slip resin, resistant to oils and solvents.
- Ideal for flooring exposed to medium-light traffic.
- Application rate of 0.150 g/m².
This finish ensured safety and protection, without altering the aesthetic appearance of the internal staircases.
🔹 External Staircases Exposed to UV Rays: WINPAINT
- A two-component water-based polyurethane resin, UV-resistant.
- Ideal for outdoor environments or areas exposed to weather variations.
- Application rate of 0.150 g/m².
Thanks to WINPAINT, surfaces exposed to direct sunlight have gained long-lasting and stable protection over time, maintaining their appearance and functionality even under challenging weather conditions.
🔹 Garage Staircases: ONE FLOORING
- A one-component liquid waterproofing protective solution.
- High resistance to impacts and mechanical stress.
- Guaranteed stability even on wet or damp substrates.
- Application rate of 1 kg/m².
This solution ensured maximum impermeability and trafficability, preventing damage from humidity or thermal shock, and providing durable protection in high-stress environments.
Supervision and Quality Control
Throughout all phases of the project, the Winkler technical team ensured continuous monitoring of the work, conducting:
- Surprise checks to verify the application method.
- Checks on the proper disposal of waste materials.
- Ongoing technical support with weekly meetings focused on safety.
Thanks to this supervision, the intervention was completed on schedule, without unforeseen issues, and with excellent results.
Conclusions: A Success That Opens New Opportunities
The renovation of the Italian headquarters of the multinational cosmetics company was an example of cutting-edge intervention, where the combination of innovative products, eco-compatibility, and maximum safety led to high-level results.
The client’s satisfaction has led to a new collaboration with Winkler and ResinEurope, who will also handle the upcoming interventions planned for the spring of 2025.
